AMTA Announces First-ever Fall Competition

AMTA Announces First-ever Fall Competition

Nov. 1, 2020 - It is no secret that the 2020-2021 mock trial season will be different. In July, the American Mock Trial Association ("AMTA") Board of Directors announced that the 2021 Regional and Opening Round Championship Series ("ORCS") tournaments would be virtual and held online. Since then, AMTA competitors and member schools have largely begun their mock trial seasons from a distance. And now, many teams are competing at various invitational tournaments that are being held online.

As AMTA prepares for the Regional and ORCS season, we are looking for opportunities to continue to educate our community about online mock trial competition. To that end, AMTA is proud to announce its first-ever fall competition, which will be held online the weekend of November 21-22. We realize that many programs may already have plans to compete the weekend of our competition, and hope this provides an opportunity for programs that might not yet have a competition lined up. In addition, priority for this competition will be given to programs that (i) are competing in AMTA for the first time; (ii) joined AMTA within the past three years; and (iii) are unranked or in the bottom 50% in AMTA's Team Power Rankings.

Registration information, including fee information and additional details can be found here. Questions about the competition should be directed to the AMTA Tournament Administration Committee. The competition registration deadline is November 14.

If you have already committed to another competition the weekend of November 21-22, do not worry. AMTA's final rules for online competition will be released after the mid-year Board meeting in December, and no team will gain an advantage in AMTA competition by participating in AMTA's fall competition. We hope to see many of you in a few weeks!
