AMTA ANNOUNCES ALL 2022 REGIONALS WILL BE ONLINE

AMTA ANNOUNCES ALL 2022 REGIONALS WILL BE ONLINE

Jan. 15, 2022 - AMTA today announced that all 2022 Regional Tournaments will be held online. Although AMTA was hopeful that it could hold Regional Tournaments in person, it has become clear that the challenges faced by the COVID-19 pandemic will make doing so impossible. We very much hoped to see our community in person, but we have made this decision in light of what we believe is best for all of our competitors, hosts, volunteers, and everyone who loves college mock trial.

Teams should expect an email regarding logistics and roster submission from the Tournament Administration Committee soon. Work is well underway to transition AMTA back to online competition, and you should check back here and on AMTA social media accounts for more information and helpful guides as you prepare for Regionals. Over the coming weeks, we will provide additional information regarding logistics, schedule, and Zoom links for your competition. At present, we can confirm the following:

  • All assigned AMTA Regional Tournament weekends for teams will remain the same.
  • The AMTA Board has voted to keep time limits the same for online competition as in-person competition. Specifically, time limits for all 2022 AMTA tournaments will be a combined 14 minutes for speeches (Opening and Closing), 25 minutes for direct examinations, and 25 minutes for cross examinations.
  • Similar to last year, AMTA tournaments will follow one unified national schedule, which will be released soon.

We remain hopeful that we may be able to host ORCS and/or the National Championship Tournament in person, and plan to release an update regarding both on or before February 14.

Thanks to everyone who plans to participate in AMTA competition this year. We are excited to see you around the circuit soon!
