State v Martin - First Case Changes Released
The AMTA Criminal Case Committee originally released State v. Martin on August 15, 2025 with an anticipated case release update for today.
Over the last month we have received your feedback and notes regarding potential grammatical errors. The attached case file is the updated version of State of Martin. We have also attached a case change sheet for ease of reference.
The Criminal Case Committee does not anticipate releasing any further updates until mid-December. However, if an updated version is released, we will notify you and will mark that version with the date of its release.
Please note that there have been some significant changes in AMTA that you should take note of when printing your materials for the season:
(1) The Midlands Rules of Evidence have also been updated. They are available on the AMTA website, but they are also attached to this email for your convenience. This is the first update to the MRE in several years, so AMTA has provided a change long on the Resources page along with the new version of the MRE.
(2) Rule 7.19 now allows teams to provide the witnesses and/or presider with an exhibit binder. Teams are not required to use the exhibit binder when entering exhibits, but it is an option that is available. If teams so choose, they may have all exhibits in a binder up at the witness stand/presider's bench rather than having copies separate and approaching the bench/witness stand while entering each exhibit. More details are explained in the new rule itself, so please review it carefully. Part of the reason for this new rule is to reduce the cost of supplies for teams, so we are highlighting this now so that your program may make the selection it believes is best.
Enjoy and good luck!
