Board of Directors Information

The AMTA is governed, organized and run by its Board of Directors.  The Board of Directors is responsible for all aspects of the AMTA tournament structure, case materials, rules, and generally maintaing the American Mock Trial Association.  All members of the Board of Directors are volunteers.  Members of the AMTA Board of Directors are not compensated in any way for their time as it relates to fulfilling their duties as a member of the Board.

The Board of Directors meets annually during July to review all policies, rules and consider motions to change and update policies and rules.  In addition to the annual meeting, the Board of Directors holds a mid-year telephone conference meeting in December.  Prior to each meeting, agendas will be published here for public review.  Following each meeting of the Board, minutes of the meetings will also be published here for public review.

  • How do I become a member of the AMTA Board of Directors?

With the exception of current competitors, anyone is eligible to apply to become a member of the AMTA Board of Directors.  Applicants to become a Candidate member are considered annually in the spring.  Prospective members must serve as a Candidate member for two years before becoming a full-voting member of the Board of Directors. For more information on this process, please refer to the AMTA Rulebook or the AMTA Bylaws (see below).

The application for Board Membership, with instructions for submission, can be obtained here.

  • Can I help without becoming a Board member?

Yes, AMTA is always seeking volunteers to serve as AMTA Representatives at its tournaments.  Membership on the Board of Directors is not required to serve as an AMTA Representative.  If you would like to learn more about being an AMTA Representative or be considered to serve as an AMTA Representative, please go here.
