AMTA EC Issues Rules Violation Sanction

AMTA EC Issues Rules Violation Sanction

Feb. 16, 2018 - After a recent regional tournament, it was reported to the AMTA Competition Response Committee (CRC) that an alleged violation of AMTA rules occurred regarding an alleged egregious invention of material fact under Rule 8.9. After an investigation into the situation, the Executive Committee (EC) has issued sanctions against the violating team, which were recommended by the CRC and approved by the EC. In addition, as guidance to all competing teams, the CRC and EC have released an opinion document explaining the circumstances, along with the potential penalties associated with such conduct. The sanction, along with a link to the opinion document can be found on AMTA's Sanctions page.

AMTA notes that this sanction was passed with unanimous support from the CRC and EC, and as the opinion notes, several members of both committees supported either suspension of the students involved from future AMTA competitions this season and/or removal of the team's ORCS bid. If anyone has questions about the CRC decision, please contact Brandon Harper, CRC Chair, or Frank Guliuzza, AMTA President.
