26th Annual Intercollegiate Mock Trial Season

An institution is not registered until completion of this form and payment of all fees. Registrants are encouraged to contact Susan Ewing at the AMTA office, amta@dwx.com, to determine whether a program has a credit or outstanding debt from previous years.

Institutional registration covers individual registration fees for all student participants, educator-coaches and attorney coaches.

An institution may register as many teams as it wishes, but only two teams per institution can compete at each regional. Additional teams will be assigned to different regionals. Please note any conflicts (e.g., an institutional requirement that a faculty member accompany a team) on this registration form.

Educator Coach/Primary Contact
A team must be sanctioned by its institution to compete. Normally, this is established by the presence of an Educator-Coach who is a faculty/staff member. Under unusual circumstances, a team may compete without an Educator-Coach if it submits a letter on official stationery signed by the President, Provost/Vice- President for Academic Affairs, or Academic Dean indicating the team has institutional sanction to compete and explaining why no faculty or staff member is designated as the Educator-Coach/Primary Contact. The Educator-Coach will receive all AMTA correspondence and AMTA will accept bid reservations and other official communications only from the designated Educator-Coach or institutionally-sanctioned primary contact person. Only one person may serve as Educator-Coach/Primary Contact. All teams are expected to furnish one adult volunteer at Regional Tournaments, Opening Round Championship Sites, and the National Championship Tournament to judge or help with administration. Each program must supply the contact information for either an Educator-Coach or a Primary Contact.

Refund and Credit Policy

Take care to register the number of teams that will actually compete at regionals. Teams registering after October 15, 2009 will be accepted only on a space-available basis. Teams that register late may not be able to compete in the same regional as timely registered teams from the same program and may have to travel a substantial distance to compete.

No credits will be given for regional cancellations after October 15, 2009.

If you must drop a team or cancel a registration notify Susan Ewing at amta@dwx.com or 515-283-0803 and Glen Halva-Neubauer at glen.halva-neubauer@furman.edu or 864-294-3608 as soon as possible.

Penalties apply for drops and/or cancellations as follows:

• $50 for teams that drop within 30 days of the start of the regional tournament to which it is assigned, but more than 14 days before the start of the regional tournament to which it is assigned.
• $100 for teams that drop within 14 days but more than 48 hours before the start of the regional tournament to which it is assigned.
• $200 for teams that drop within 48 hours of the start of the regional tournament to which it is assigned but more than 24 hours before the start of the regional tournament to which it is assigned.
• $350 for teams that drop within 24 hours of the start of the regional tournament to which it is assigned, but provide notice before the registration period for the tournament begins.
• $500 for teams that fail to show for the regional tournament to which it is assigned or that leave the tournament early without permission of the AMTA Representative.

Regional Tournaments, Opening Round Championship Sites, and the National Championship Tournament
Regional tournaments will occur in February 2010. Opening Round Championship Site tournaments will occur in March 2010. The 26th National Championship Tournament will be in Memphis, Tennessee in April 2010. Please list dates in February and March 2010 during which teams from your institution cannot compete and state the nature of the conflict. Note that AMTA may not be able to accommodate all conflict requests. Do not assume that you will be assigned to any particular regional or postseason site even if you have been assigned there in the past.

* While geography is considered in making regional assignments, no team is guaranteed to be assigned to the closest regional. If the regional tournament closest to you exceeds capacity, do you volunteer to move to a site farther away?

The criteria used by the Regional Tournaments Committee to make regional assignments is available on AMTA ’s webpage. Decisions of the RTC are final.

REGIONAL ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE POSTED ON THE AMTA WEBPAGE. POSTING CONSTITUTES OFFICIAL NOTICE OF A TEAM ’S REGIONAL ASSIGNMENT. IT IS EACH INSTITUTION’S RESPONSIBILITY TO CHECK THE WEBPAGE FOR ASSIGNMENT INFORMATION AND UPDATES.

TENTATIVE REGIONAL ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE MADE AND POSTED BEFORE THANKSGIVING TO IDENTIFY PROBLEMS AND CONFLICTS. DO NOT MAKE TRAVEL PLANS UNTIL THE FINAL ASSIGNMENTS APPEAR. DO NOT MAKE TRAVEL PLANS FOR OPENING ROUND CHAMPIONSHIP SITES OR THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT BEFORE QUALIFYING FOR THOSE EVENTS.

Acceptance of Terms

By becoming an AMTA member, each institution agrees to abide by all AMTA rules and policies as published on the AMTA website at www.collegemocktrial.org. Timely payment of the membership fee results in the institution being given a license to access and use the current mock trial case materials and rulebook to prepare for and compete in AMTA sanctioned tournaments. These materials may not be distributed to non- AMTA members or used for any other purpose without written permission from AMTA .

Entering your name on the line below constitutes acceptance of all terms outlined in this registration agreement. Failure to abide by the terms of registration may result in penalties. AMTA reserves the right to refuse registration to programs that have outstanding fee balances or have violated the terms of registration in the past.
