2010-2011 Mock Trial Registration

NOTE: Items marked with a blue asterisk (*) are required fields.

REGISTRATION DEADLINE: Friday, October 15, 2010
Your school is not registered until this form is completed and the AMTA office receives full payment for all fees. Please contact the AMTA office at amta@dwx.com to determine whether your school has any credits or penalties from previous years.

If AMTA does not receive your school's full payment by the close of business on Friday, October 15, 2010, your team(s) will be placed on a wait list, and will be assigned to regional tournaments on a space-available basis only! This includes "add-ons" of additional teams if AMTA receives payment after October 15.

Educator Coach
Each school's mock trial team must be authorized by your school in order to compete in AMTA tournaments. The presence of an educator coach who is a faculty or staff member at your school is sufficient to demonstrate such authorization. The educator coach may be, but is not required to be, the same person who serves as the primary contact person.

A team may compete without an educator coach if it submits a letter on official stationery signed by the President, Provost/Vice-President for Academic Affairs, or Academic Dean indicating the team has the school's authorization to compete, and explaining why no faculty or staff member is designated as the Educator Coach.

School Registration (Case Materials) Fee

The school registration fee is $350.00 ($200.00 if your school has never registered with AMTA before.) The school registration fee allows your school to use the 2010-2011 AMTA case materials during this academic year. Distribution of the case materials or the case access password to persons outside of your school is strictly prohibited, and may result in fines or suspension of competitive privileges. See Rule 2.10 for more information. Other uses of AMTA case materials involving persons who are not students at your school are subject to an additional case use license and fee. Contact the AMTA office at amta@dwx.com for information regarding additional case use rules and fees.

Team Registration Fees

A team consists of at least 6 and no more than 10 students. Each team must pay a separate registration fee for each level of competition (regional, opening round championship, and national championship.)

Individual Student Registration

Each student who is to compete at an AMTA-sanctioned event must complete a short registration form on the AMTA website. The purpose of this registration is to allow AMTA to better communicate with its alumni. Students may register at any time prior to competing.

Refund/Credit/Penalty Policy

The school registration fee is non-refundable.

Any team that drops out of regional competition after October 15 will not receive any credit or refund of the regional team fee. Schools registering with AMTA for the first time may be excepted from this rule.

Any team that drops out within 30 days of its regional tournament will be assessed a penalty of $50-$500 depending on the time remaining before the regional tournament begins. See Rule 2.6.

If you pay for opening round or national championship team registration fees but do not qualify for those tournaments, those fees will be credited towards your overall registration fees for the following year. If you do not register the following year, the fees are forfeited.

Tournament Structure

Regional tournaments will occur at various sites during the last weekend of January 2011 and weekends in February 2011. Regional winners advance to opening round championship tournaments ("ORCS"), held at various sites during March 2011. ORCS winners advance to the National Championship Tournament held in Des Moines, Iowa, April 15-17, 2011.

Tournament Assignments

Regional tournament assignments will be posted on www.collegemocktrial.org no later than Thanksgiving. It is each school's responsibility to check the regional assignment posting to determine its assignment(s) and any subsequent updates.

Do not make any nonrefundable travel plans for a regional tournament until www.collegemocktrial.org indicates the assignments are final.

Policy on Conflicts

Winter/spring breaks are not a viable AMTA conflict unless there is documentation from the school stating that competing on such weekends is impermissible.

Because AMTA tournaments take place in February and March, we are simply unable to accommodate the wide variety of school breaks occurring during these months.

If your school has a written policy that prohibits your mock trial team from traveling to or competing in an AMTA event during a school break, please forward a copy of the policy to Johnathan Woodward, Tournament Administration Committee Chair, by email to jgw225@gmail.com or by fax to 262-377-6080. A note or letter from a faculty member is not sufficient; AMTA must receive a copy of your school's policy.

In the space below, you may notify AMTA of exam periods, breaks, or other date-related conflicts; however, AMTA cannot guarantee regional or opening round championship tournament assignments that accommodate the conflict(s) you report.

Academic Credit
* Please indicate using the drop down field below whether students at your institution receive any academic credit for their participation in mock trial and/or a related class.

Acceptance of Terms

By completing this form, you state you have the authority to act as an agent of the school you are registering. You agree that your school shall abide by all AMTA rules and policies as published at www.collegemocktrial.org and as may be amended by AMTA from time to time. Registrants have the obligation to check www.collegemocktrial.org for any amendments or updates to AMTA rules or policies.

Payment of the school registration fee results in your school being granted a limited license to use the current academic year's AMTA case materials for tournament preparation for your school for this season. Case materials or case access credentials may not be distributed to persons outside of your school, or used for any other purpose without AMTA's written permission.

Entering your name on the line below constitutes acceptance of all of the terms set forth in this registration agreement. Failure to abide by any term may result in penalties at AMTA's discretion. AMTA reserves the right to refuse or revoke registration to schools that violate any of these terms, that have violated these terms in the past, or that have outstanding fee or penalty balances owed to AMTA.
