Mock Trial Judges Needed: April 15-17, 2011 | Des Moines, Iowa
Drake University Law School and the American Mock Trial Association are seeking attorneys and judges to serve as presiders and scorers at the National Championship Tournament to be held April 15-17, 2011 at the Polk County Courthouse and the Polk County Convention Complex.
The National Championship Tournament features the best 48 teams from around the country (out of more than 600 than begin competing at the start of the season). The tournament needs to fill 288 judging slots (3 judges in 24 trials in all four rounds) to ensure that college mock trial's premiere event continues returning home to Iowa where it was started by Dick Calkins-then Dean of the Drake Law School.
This year's tournament features a civil case involving product liability. No previous mock trial or real courtroom experience is required to judge. A brief judges' training session precedes each round of competition. No advance preparation is necessary, and the total time commitment is 3 to 3.5 hours per round.
Judges' Meetings will begin at the following times:
Round 1 - Friday April 15, 2011: 6:00 PM
Round 2 - Saturday April 16, 2011: 9:00 AM
Round 3 - Saturday April 16, 2011: 2:00 PM
Round 4 - Sunday April 17, 2011: 9:00 AM
