Nationals Case Corrections
The Civil Case Committee has made minor edits to the affidavit of Trinidad Martinez, the Crime Scene Report
and the Special Commission Report to correct unintended errors. Specifically, the Martinez affidavit now references
Guerrera as a witness to the shooting; the Crime Scene Report omits the previous reference to Guerrera as a
witness to the shooting; and the Special Commission Report no longer confuses Officer Conmey and Officer
Drake in the paragraphs referring to the filing of the May 17, 2005 incident report. We apologize for any
inconvenience. Any questions or concerns should be directed to the Committee.
All new files are available for download below:

Case Updates and Additions
AMTA has released additional materials for the national tournament competitions and revised two existing materials.
The affidavit of Loren Ingman was revised at lines 59-60 to remain consistent with the change to the case materials in
which Major Sam Sachs was reassigned to another unit rather than fired. The title of the Special Commission Report
was corrected so as to remove the erroneous reference to the Max Jeffries shooting, which occurred after the release
of the report, and to include the exhibits referenced therein. The two new materials address the admissibility of the
testimony of Cooper and the invocation of Fifth Amendment protections at trial.

Errata Sheet Released
In response to several requests, the Civil Case Committee has compiled a list of most
of the revisions to the case materials released October 23, 2006. The list does not include
every single revision made. The intention was to highlight the most significant revisions. The
list is not a part of the case packet and thus may not be referenced at trial or used for Tab Room
intervention. It is merely a helpful guide offered as a courtesy to our members to aid you in
your review of the revised case packet.

Updated case packet
The much anticipated corrections and clarifications to this year's case materials have been released.
Members should download the case in its entirety and replace all previously released materials with the
updated materials. Because a number of people complained about the case materials being included in a
single file, we have posted them as separate pdf files for ease of reference. The updated materials
also include jury instructions. If anyone has any specific questions or concerns, feel free to contact
the members of the Civil Case Committee.

Updated file: Sam Sachs affidavit
The Sam Sachs affidavit was corrected for a gender-neutrality mistake. We apologize for the error and any inconvenience.
We hope this will be an isolated mistake, and we have endeavored to correct it quickly in order to minimize the inconvenience.
Thank you to those who brought the mistake to our attention so quickly.
On January 2nd, 2005, off-duty police officer Jamie Conmey heard a radio transmission came over dispatch saying that two suspects had just robbed Joe's Corner Store. The description said that the perpetrators were wearing white T-shirts and blue jeans, appeared to be teenagers, and had taken the cash in a brown paper bag. Officer Conmey put on the siren and started searching the neighborhood surrounding the store. Officer Conmey saw a teenager dressed in a white shirt and jeans climbing a fence in an alleyway. Officer Conmey pulled over and told the teenager to come down. The teenager stopped climbing the fence but did not come down. Seconds later, Officer Conmey shot the teenager in the side. Officer Conmey claims to have seen a gun, however, no weapon was found at the scene. The teenager was rushed to the hospital as quickly as possible, where the teenager almost immediately fell into a coma - a state in which the teenager remains today.
The teenager was Max Jeffries. Max's parents, Sean and Leigh Jeffries, filed suit against the Polk County Police Department, alleging that the actions of Officer Conmey, who committed suicide shortly after the incident, and thus the Polk County Police Department, deprived Max Jeffries of Jeffries' constitutional rights to due process of law. In addition, the Jeffries allege that through its policy, custom, and practice, the Polk County Police Department deprived Max Jeffries of Jeffries' rights to due process of law. The Jeffries allege that as a result of the actions of Officer Conmey and the Polk County Police Department, their child experienced life-threatening injuries, and as such they are entitled to damages. This case has been bifurcated and as such, damages are not to be considered in this same proceeding.
