Sue serves as the State Coordinator for the Carolina Center for Civic Education, a nonprofit that organizes the statewide high school mock trial program in North Carolina. Prior to joining the CCCE, Sue coached a high school team for two years; in its second year, the team earned second place at the 2010 Empire New York, swept all ballots in the 2011 NC competition, and earned ninth place at the 2011 NHSMTC competition.
Sue oversees every aspect of the NC high school program and has been instrumental in implementing many significant changes, including an automated tabulation system, a summer mock trial camp, and an outreach/training program for new schools. She has authored or co-authored all NC cases since 2012 as well as the 2015 NHSMTC case and the 2016 Empire Mock Trial case. Sue volunteered with Empire Mock Trial from 2011 – 2016 and began serving as an AMTA Representative in 2012.
Sue earned her B.A. (mathematics, chemistry minor, summa cum laude) and M.P.H. (nutrition, with honors) from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. She worked part-time in health care while homeschooling four children, before switching careers to focus on civic education.
